To commemorate and match the 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Canfield Balance, with its polished finish and oil slick suspension yoke, Canfield have released their classic Crampon pedal in oil slick. The Canfield Crampon has been around for quite some time in various iterations but it has retained its trademark thin profile. Here’s what you need to know.Advertisements

In 2019, Canfield Brothers split to form Canfield Bikes and CBF Suspension. Before that, they spent no fewer than seven years developing this flat pedal for mountain biking.

The Canfield Crampon flat pedal has a fairly unique look to it. A lot of flat pedals on the market feature a concave platform. Alternatively, the Crampon’s platform is convex. The platform gets narrower the further away from the axle you look – until it measures just 6 mm thick at the leading edge. For those who have a habit of catching the pedal on rocks or when cornering, the Canfield Crampon may be worthy of consideration.

In 2016, Canfield modernized the Crampon making the platform larger and reconfiguring the internals to make it effectively maintenance free. The chromoly axle extends to the outer edges and houses a set of stacked bearings with the DU bushing at the crank side. The platform now measures in at 112 mm by 106 mm.

Pricing & Availability

Anyway, the point is that the Canfield Crampon is now available in a rainbow oil slick colorway. You’ll have to splash out, however. It retails at a premium $174.99 – that’s $24.99 more than the cost of any of the 11 colorways you see below. It’s available now direct from Canfield Bikes.
