Kona goes Supreme with the 2021 Process 134 29 offering a carbon-rich, wireless build

Last year I joined Kona for their 2020 bike launch, and we got to hit the trails of Bellingham, Washington on their redesigned Process 134 29er’s. This mid-travel machine makes an excellent all around trail bike, so for discerning riders Kona has added a top-tier Supreme model. The 2021 Process 134 Supreme boasts a SRAM XX1 AXS wireless drivetrain, Zipp Zero Moto carbon wheels and a five figure price tag.

The 2021 Process 134 Supreme’s carbon frame is the same as Kona’s other Process 134 29’s, it just gets a drool-worthy component spec. Its 134mm of rear travel is controlled by RockShox’s Super Deluxe Ultimate shock, and up front is a 140mm RockShox Pike Ultimate RC2 Charger 2 Debonair fork.

\"2021

The Process 134 Supreme comes with 29” wheels only. The frame accepts 110/148mm Boost axles, and uses a PF92 press-fit bottom bracket. Cables (if you have them) are routed internally, and Kona provides two ports on both sides of the head tube so riders worldwide can properly set up their rear brakes on either side.

This ‘no expenses spared’ bike comes decked out with high-end goodies like a SRAM XX1 AXS wireless drivetrain, SRAM XO1 carbon cranks, Zipp Zero Moto carbon wheels, a Reverb AXS dropper post, and even a titanium railed WTB Volt saddle.

Kona apparently likes powerful brakes, so they gave the Supreme SRAM’s G2 Ultimate brakes with 200/180mm rotors. The Process Supreme 134 also includes a 35mm Descendant carbon DH handlebar and 35mm stem. Of course a top-tier bike should come with good treads, so the Supreme comes out of the box with Maxxis Minion and Dissector EXO TR 3C tires.  Check out Kona’s website for complete build specs.

The Process 134 saw a significant update last year, so the frame construction and geometry hasn’t changed for 2021. Key figures to note are reaches of 450/475mm for M/L frames, very stubby 427mm chainstays, versatile head tube angles of 66°, and steep 76.5° seat masts to keep you in a balanced ride position.

Frames are available in S/M/L/XL sizes. The Process 134 Supreme sells for $10,999 and comes in Gloss Purple-Green Prism.

The Process 134 Supreme is also available as a frame kit, which includes a RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate rear shock and a rear axle. The kit costs $2999.

Kona Process 134 CR DL 29”

\"2021The Process 134 CR DL 29’s haven’t changed drastically for 2021, but they have seen a few small revisions since last year: The 2021’s now have DT Swiss 350 hubs instead of last year’s 370’s, and they now run SRAM’s new X01 10-52t cassette out back.  The cranks have changed from SRAM X01’s to carbon GX, and the 2.3” Maxxis Minion DHF rear tire has been replaced with a 2.4” Dissector EXO TR 3C.

For complete build specs check out Kona’s website, and since the Process 134 frames are all identical, the geometry chart above applies to all models. The Process 134 CR DL 29 is available in S/M/L/XL sizes, and the 2021 color is Matte Lead Powder and Gloss Sunset Fade. This model retails for $5999.

The Process 134 CR 29’s build spec has also been slightly altered for 2021; The crank has been upgraded from SRAM’s NX to GX, and last year’s Guide R brakes were updated to SRAM’s G2 RS. The CR gets the same rear tire swap as the CR DL, moving from a 2.3” Maxxis Minion DHF to a 2.4” Dissector EXO TR 3C. Kona has also replaced the 2020’s RockShox Reverb seat post with a Trans-X Dropper. Check out Kona’s website for the full component spec.

Process CR 29 frames are available in S/M/L/XL sizes, and this model comes in Gloss Indigo and Concrete. MSRP is $4999.

Availability dates for the 2021 bikes will vary by region, so check with your local Kona dealer.
